How To Install Brick Slips
Brick slips are a project that can be taken on by any keen DIY enthusiast.
Our step-by-step installation guide will run you through what it takes to install brick slips and go from a plain empty canvas to an exposed brick feature wall, full of character and charm.

Step 1 - Surface Preparation
Remove any loose paint or plaster, and repair any flaking surfaces. Dust down the prepared surface and remove any grease or dirt. Prime the surface with a suitable primer. Mark out level lines using a spirit level on the blank wall surface.

Step 2 - Apply Adhesive
Mix your tile adhesive to the desired consistency as per the instructions on the packaging. Apply the adhesive to the surface with a thickness of 3-4mm to an area you can cover quickly. Use an adhesive trowel to comb the surface.

Step 3 - Fit the brick slips
From the bottom upwards, fix your brick slips to the desired surface, cutting in where necessary. Fix your second course, using your desired brick bond pattern and placing spacers between each brick slip. Complete the area whilst the adhesive is still workable.

Step 4 - Pointing Mortar
Once all the brick slips are fitted. Ensure the slips are clean and dry, remove the spacers, then apply the pointing mortar between the joints. This can be squeezed into the joints using a pointing tool, piping bag or with a trowel.

Step 5 - Seal Surface
If desired, when all the pointing has been completed, brush the whole wall to remove any loose deposits ensuring the surface is clean and dry. Apply a coat of brick and dust sealer to the surface of the brick slips and mortar joints using either a brush or roller.
